Dan Folino’s 2021 in Review

This past year marks my second full year at Royal City Physio. It was another enjoyable year working alongside an amazing team. The supportive and fun atmosphere is always enjoyable to work in, and each day I find myself excited to start my shift for the day! Thanks to Karen and my Physiotherapy colleagues for their support and always helping me grow in knowledge and experience with each year! Also, a special thanks to the front office staff for helping to make things run smoothly this year!

2021 was a busy year, as COVID-19 restrictions eased off I was able to participate in more activities. Soccer started up again, and I have been enjoying playing in both indoor and outdoor leagues on a weekly basis. It has felt awesome to be able to play soccer competitively again for the first time in almost 2 years! Additionally, this past spring/summer I was able to get outside and play tennis and golf. Also, each day I go on various walks/hikes with my dog Vince, which is a part-time job in itself!

Like 2020, my travel plans for 2021 were altered, as my planned trip to Europe to attend the Euro 2020 soccer tournament was cancelled. While I would have loved to attend some games, it did bring me great joy in seeing the Italian’s become the European champions! I was able to visit Victoria in the summer, and a big highlight of that trip was going to East Sooke Park. It offered some breathtaking views and a variety of different trails. Also, I was able to enjoy some awesome restaurants and take in the beautiful sights in Victoria. Unfortunately, due to the various forest fires over the summer I was not able to travel up to my cabin as much as I would have liked to. I hope to be able to travel more next year, specifically, I would like to see the F1 race in Montreal next year!

While most courses were not being offered this past year due to COVID restrictions, I was able to finally take an in-person course for the first time in almost 2 years! I was able to take a sports first responder course in November. This was a great experience, as I was able to learn from very experienced Physiotherapists who have had vast experience in working with professional teams. This course will help open doors for me in the future to be able to work with various sports teams. Next year I would like to be able to attend more courses as hopefully more courses will be offered in the new year.

Finally, as always, I wouldn’t be able to do the job I love without the hard work from my clients. It brings me great satisfaction to see each person recover from their injuries. Whether it is helping client’s return to work, sport, or daily activity without experiencing pain, it all is very rewarding! I wish everyone a joyful holiday, and I look forward to see you all again next year!
